Arabic driving licences from Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and all Arabic-speaking countries can be translated for use in Australia. Driving in Australia on an Arabic licence
Car hire: rental companies ask for an English translation or an International Driving Permit when a licence is not in English. Show the translation together with your original licence when you collect the car.
New South Wales: Australian citizens and permanent residents can drive on a current overseas licence for 3 months from arrival, and must transfer to a NSW licence within that time. Service NSW asks for an approved English translation of a licence that is not in English.
Victoria: VicRoads asks for a non-English licence to be translated by a NAATI accredited translator or an appropriate consulate. An International Driving Permit is accepted instead only if it was issued by the country that issued your licence.
Other states have their own rules and timeframes. Check with your state road authority before you book, and choose the purpose (licence conversion or vehicle rental) on our order form so the translation is prepared for that use.
