Arabic words for a marriage certificate
In many Arabic-speaking countries the official marriage record is the marriage contract itself, عقد زواج, registered with a court or civil registry. Other documents are titled وثيقة زواج ("marriage document") or شهادة زواج ("marriage certificate"). عقد القران (ʿaqd al-qirān) is another term for the marriage contract.
A religious marriage contract is often called عقد نكاح (ʿaqd nikāḥ). Each document is translated under the title it carries.
